Have you ever spent so much time at work, on yourself, or with your family to achieve your vision? What was it about this goal that motivated you to bring it to fruition and continue to improve it as you go?
Ambition drives us to invest time and effort into our goals, whether they are professional, personal, or family-oriented. Each of us has a unique vision that propels us forward. One of my long-standing goals was to start a blog and share my love for food, travel, products, and self-growth with readers.
For the longest time, I struggled to get started. I doubted myself, questioned the timing, and wondered if I had anything relatable to share. Eventually, I wrote in my journal that I wanted to start a blog. When I reflected on why I hadn’t tried, I realized it was fear holding me back. What if I failed?
Feeling disappointed for not attempting, I decided to change my direction. I shared my vision with my husband, who was instantly thrilled and supportive. That evening, I took the first step toward my goal. I felt energized knowing I had made the initial move.
Now, my blog is up and running. While there is still a lot to do on the backend, I acknowledge that it's happening. The seed was planted, and now the roots are setting in. As I continue to work on my blog, there will be changes along the way, but the seed I planted will eventually blossom.
Ways I Tackled Self-Doubt and Procrastination to Get Started:
1. Identify Your Goals
Write down your short-term and long-term goals. Rate each goal based on priority. Write two or three reasons why it is important to you. This helps remind you why it means so much.
2. Are You in the Right Environment?
Do your closest family, friends, and loved ones support your goal? If so, let them be part of your journey, help you when you feel discouraged, and celebrate your wins. If not, understand that a change in environment could be one of the reasons why you haven’t worked on your goals. It would be best in this scenario to find an environment or seek help from those who can help you bring your goals from ideation to action.
3. Small Steps Lead to Larger Steps
Achieving your goals does not happen overnight. It takes time, lots of nourishment, and most importantly, consistency. Remember, small steps are still progress, better than no steps at all.
4. Celebrate Your Milestones
Whether you have written down ways to get a business started, booked a dream trip, or hired a realtor to begin the process of seeing new homes, small wins should be celebrated. As they say, “Slow and steady wins the race.” Take a breather and acknowledge where you are in the process.
5. Keep Consistency
Try to build routines to work on your goals regularly. In the beginning, it may seem slow, but as you put the time and work in, you’ll see things pick up in no time. Keep your head up, you got this!
